A survey carried out in September by the consultancy Brain Network found that eight in ten Argentines struggle to make it to the end of the month. Some 45% said they just about cover their expenses, while 34% said they fall short entirely, the firm reported.

Among respondents who reported financial difficulty, 40% said they use credit cards to cover shortfalls, a sign of rising household debt. The findings paint a picture of persistent strain on family budgets even as some official indicators have pointed to a gradual recovery.

The survey adds to a mixed picture of Argentina's economy, where inflation has eased from its peak but take-home pay has been slow to catch up for many households. Economists will watch upcoming official data to see whether the strain is beginning to ease.
