The US embassy in Caracas said all of its staff are once more working from inside the building, after years of a reduced presence abroad. The move is among the clearest signs yet of a thaw between Washington and Caracas. Neither government detailed what prompted it.

The US embassy in Caracas confirmed on Saturday that its full staff is now based inside the compound, after years in which American diplomats handled the Venezuela file from outside the country. The announcement marks a rare, concrete step in a relationship that has swung between confrontation and cautious contact for much of the past decade.

Washington and Caracas severed most formal ties after Venezuela's disputed 2019 presidential vote, with the US recognizing an opposition figure as the country's legitimate leader and imposing sweeping sanctions on its oil sector. Limited contact has continued on and off since, largely over migration, detained Americans and, more recently, Venezuela's oil exports.

Neither government detailed what prompted the staff's return, and officials in Caracas issued no formal response. Observers will watch for whether the move is followed by further steps on sanctions relief or detainee releases, which have previously accompanied similar gestures between the two governments.
