Two years ago, I implored Congress and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence specifically to allow me to brief them on evidence the U.S. government possesses of pulsed microwave attacks allegedly perpetrated by Russia, causing so-called Havana Syndrome. These attacks have injured hundreds of U.S. government personnel, including myself, my wife and my two children.
Just weeks after I wrote that oped, the State Department retaliated against me. The retaliation became more intense after I praised House Intel Chairman Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) for allowing me the opportunity to testify about the Havana Syndrome coverup by the State Department and Intelligence Community.
I testified with the expectation that the committee would do as it had promised — hold officials accountable for, among other things, willful negligence and denied medical care that led to many of our traumatic brain injuries (especially those of my two children) being much worse than they should have been.
After the testimony of dozens of injured and non-injured officials with knowledge of the U.S. Intelligence Community and State Department coverup of these pulsed microwave attacks, the committee has produced a bombshell report. In any previous Congress, this report would have been released months ago and resulted in some real accountability.
But in a betrayal of all those injured — and especially of those who testified and faced illegal retaliation for doing so — Crawford inexplicably refuses to release his committee’s report. Why would House Intelligence do this after committing so much time and colossal congressional effort, promising accountability to the victims of these pulsed microwave attacks?
The committee leadership claims that the CIA is slow-rolling the declassification process of the congressional report. Of course they are — the report is surely damning to many of CIA’s senior leadership. What is deplorable is that Congress would let the agency get away with such dilatory tactics, deferring to the same people behind the wrongdoing and retaliation it is investigating.
This absurd situation is made even worse because the committee, like all committees in this Congress, is seemingly taking direction from the White House. The administration may not want this report released because it likely ties Russia to these attacks against U.S. personnel. I am far from being alone in believing the State Department and U.S. intelligence community possess evidence of Russian involvement but are avoiding releasing it. As someone personally affected by this, I want the truth to be revealed.
This would certainly not be the first betrayal in history by a politician, but all the committee has to do is release its own report. Instead of treating Russian President Vladimir Putin with the deference that the executive branch seems to want, the committee should exercise a modicum of independence and conduct some real oversight for a change. The fact that members would sit on this information sets a troubling precedent that should concern every U.S. citizen.
Until he is publicly held accountably by Congress, Putin will continue to be treated like a friend of this White House and receive invites to visit the U.S. Each time that happens, take a moment to consider the role Russia played in inflicting horrific brain injuries on U.S. government personnel using directed energy attacks.
