Energy Group Ltd. has sold its operating interest in the long-stalled Greater Sunrise liquefied natural gas project to a Timor-Leste state-owned company.

The sale of the 33.44% stake is worth as much as $200 million, Woodside said Tuesday in a statement, although most of that is dependent on the project being built. The small nation has long pushed for the development of the two fields that make up Greater Sunrise and a LNG plant in a bid to tap potentially billions of dollars of revenue.

Timor Gap will now control the entire project, after last month agreeing to buy out a third shareholder, Osaka Gas Corp. An independent assessment from 2018 estimated the development cost at $15.6 billion.

For years Woodside and the Timorese government have argued over whether to build the liquefaction plant locally or pipe the gas to Australia. The fields have contingent resources of 5.1 trillion cubic feet of gas and 226 million barrels of condensate, according to Timor Gap.
