All s of the nutraceutical sector assessed by the Advertising Standards Council of India were found to be peddling fake claims, the self-regulatory body said on Wednesday.
The body said it evaluated 61 ads between July and September this year, and has finished processing for 60 such campaigns.“All 60 ads where processing is complete were found in violation of the ASCI Code,” an official statement said.
Among the processed ads, 29 were not contested by the brands at all. For the remaining 31 that were contested, the objections failed to provide adequate substantiation for the claims made in their s.Key violations related to claims around weight management, anti-ageing, skin lightening, UV protection and respiratory health, ASCI said.
The report also flagged s claiming to address conditions such as asthma, COPD, blood pressure, cholesterol and PCOS, highlighting how exaggerated outcomes and misleading visuals can create unrealistic expectations and blur the distinction between general wellness support and medical treatment.“As the category grows, it is important that the strength of advertising claims matches the evidence available, so consumers can make informed decisions, and trust is not compromised by promises that go beyond proof,” ASCI’s secretary general and chief executive Manisha Kapoor said.
Citing a research report, ASCI said that the nutraceutical sector was valued at $38.77 billion in 2025.
