Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has questioned the Centre’s decision to sell a majority stake in IDBI Bank to Canadian investment firm Fairfax Financial Holdings. In a letter addressed to IDBI Bank employees on October 29, Gandhi said the government's decision to proceed with the sale had come despite questions from his side. He said he stands with the employees of the bank who are against the proposed measure. Gandhi’s letter comes two weeks after the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the sale of a 60.72% stake in IDBI Bank for ₹52,878.08 crore to a subsidiary of Fairfax Financial Holdings.

The forum has demanded that the government acquire at least another 6% stake in the bank to restore its majority holding. It has also asked for pension benefits, welfare measures, statutory protection for service conditions, and reservation policies.
