TOKYO/SEOUL -- Viva Republica, a South Korean fintech company, is poised to acquire a smartphone-based brokerage subsidiary of Japan's Tokai Tokyo Financial Holdings, looking to capitalize on growing interest in investing among young Japanese consumers and expand its reach in mobile-first retail investing.

Tokai Tokyo is expected to approve the deal at a board meeting Friday and announce it the same day.

South Korea's Mirae Asset Securities said Thursday that a U.S. subsidiary had signed an agreement to acquire all shares of Sanko Securities a unit of Okasan Securities Group, in a deal valued around 47.6 billion won ($35.5 million). Mirae Asset plans to bolster Sanko's existing proprietary trading business and, after building out its operating structure, expand into retail financial services as well.
