International Inc. said it would acquire a majority stake in Undercover Snacks, bolstering the better-for-you part of its portfolio.

The parent company of brands including Oreos, Ritz and Chips Ahoy reported third-quarter earnings Thursday and said the deal is expected to close in early 2027. Undercover, whose products are gluten-free, is geared toward health-conscious consumers who are looking for snack alternatives. Shares of Mondelez were up 3.7% at 4:40 p.m. in New York in after-hours trading.

Consumers have been willing to pay more for premium, healthier options like Undercover’s chocolate and quinoa crisps, compared with traditional processed snacks. Founded in 2017, Undercover uses crisped quinoa to create an unusual texture. Individual-sized bags of its chocolate snacks are often given out on United Airlines.

The airline handout has been a great way for people to sample the snack, Chief Executive Officer Diana Levy said in a recent interview. “Because our product was a little difficult to understand without trying it, it’s had a tremendous impact.”Levy will continue operating the business, Mondelez said.

Mondelez also reported $9.97 billion in revenue for the quarter, narrowly missing analyst estimates. The company said it would maintain its full-year outlook.
