A US judge on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit accusing the US Federal Trade Commission of launching an investigation into a transgender health nonprofit in retaliation for its advocacy for gender-affirming care.

US District Judge James Boasberg in Washington, DC, said the World Professional Association for Transgender Health's lawsuit against the FTC was moot because the agency had revoked a subpoena that formed the basis of the case.

Boasberg in May issued a preliminary ruling blocking the subpoena, which he said amounted to unlawful retaliation against WPATH for exercising its constitutional free-speech rights.

The FTC sued WPATH in Texas federal court in June and withdrew the subpoena, which Boasberg on Thursday said was enough to end the group's retaliation lawsuit.

WPATH and the FTC did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Boasberg in July denied WPATH's motion for a preliminary injunction that would have blocked the Texas lawsuit from going forward.
