Initially, the pilot reported moderate turbulence and icing conditions while discussing the possibility of finding smoother air. The crew also reported an outside temperature of minus 47 degrees Celsius. However, the situation deteriorated rapidly as the aircraft began losing altitude at an alarming rate.
