Ukraine on Monday rejected allegations by Mali and Niger that it supports illegal armed groups and interferes in the internal affairs of Sahelian countries, calling them “baseless.”The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said narratives directed against Ukraine echoed key elements of “Russian propaganda” aimed at undermining trust in Kyiv and weakening its ties with African partners.

Kyiv reiterated its respect for the sovereignty of the two countries, the right of their peoples to determine their own future and their efforts to ensure the security of their citizens.

The ministry said the allegations had been raised periodically in previous years and recently resurfaced, including during the UN General Assembly high-level segment in September 2026.

“We warn against further disinformation on this issue and note that, since the two countries severed diplomatic relations with Ukraine, no credible evidence has been provided to substantiate these allegations,” it said.

It added that security challenges in the Sahel should be assessed based on facts rather than politically motivated accusations, while urging the international community to respond to reports of Russian military structures operating in the region, including their alleged role in destabilization and possible human rights violations.

The ministry said Ukraine had no colonial past in Africa and had built relations with African countries on the principles of equality, mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs.
