Delaware voters select their sole U.S. representative Tuesday. Incumbent Rep. Sarah McBride (D) is fresh off her first term in Congress, after winning an election to succeed now-Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D) in the First State's lone congressional district. McBride ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
McBride, who served in the state Senate before running for the U.S. House, is the country's first openly transgender member of Congress.
Joseph Arminio, a medical doctor, is McBride's GOP opponent, having won the Republican primary in September against business owner John Whalen and former nominee Earl Cooper, coming in about 15 points ahead of his next-closest opponent.
Arminio made national headlines earlier in the campaign for repeatedly misgendering McBride during a candidate forum. He was removed from the forum after being warned, over McBride's objections. Polls close at 8 p.m. EST.
