Cinven is tapping banks to help finance its acquisition of specialty pharmaceutical company Theramex with debt financing of around €1.5 billion ($1.7 billion).

London-based Cinven announced on Tuesday that it had reached an agreement to acquire Theramex from Carlyle Group Inc. and PAI Partners. The deal values Theramex, which focuses on women’s health, at about €2.6 billion, the people said, confirming an earlier report in the Financial Times.

Other banks are likely to join the deal shortly, according to the people, who asked not to be identified because the information is private. Despite volatile market conditions, banks are still keen to finance leveraged buyouts because they generate some of the biggest fees in investment banking.
