Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, son of Mexico’s former president and a member of the ruling party, took to social media to deny involvement amid scrutiny over alleged corruption cases.

In a ten-minute video posted on Tuesday, López Beltrán argued that a campaign backed by political adversaries including conservative billionaire and media mogul Ricardo Salinas seeks to falsely label him corrupt. Media reports have alleged links to cases including fuel smuggling and favoring friends in government contracts.

“I’ve never interceded on behalf of any person or company to help them secure a contract or business deal,” López Beltrán said.

In August, López Beltrán released an angry letter to President Donald Trump, revealing that his US visa had been revoked in what he derided as a “crude and perverse dirty trick.”President Claudia Sheinbaum came to his defense, arguing that the revocation of US visas held by Mexican politicians showed how the Trump administration has singled Mexico out for political reasons unrelated to any proof of crimes.

Dating back to his father’s term, López Beltrán has faced allegations of influence peddling stemming from alleged connections to businesspeople who obtained lucrative government contracts. Some of the more specific claims focus on his relationship with businessman Jorge Amílcar Olán, whose companies won some contracts, according to local news reports. López Beltrán repeated past denials of ties to Olán.

“They lost their privileges,” he said. “Now they must pay taxes and abide by the law.”López Beltrán also rejected any links to fuel smuggling rackets known locally as “huachicol fiscal,” that often involve illegal fuel imports and falsification of customs documents to avoid taxes. López Beltrán’s name has surfaced in media reports that detail a network allegedly involving associates of his and officials linked to the Navy, which was put in charge of the country’s ports by his father.

His critics argue he’s been protected by Sheinbaum, charges she has denied.
