SE nudged its full-year sales outlook slightly higher boosted by milestone payments from its cancer drug partnership with Bristol Myers Squibb Co. Revenue will now reach €1.7 billion ($1.9 billion) to €1.9 billion, compared with a previous low of €1.6 billion, the German company said Tuesday.

BioNTech, which shot to fame with its Covid-19 vaccine developed with Pfizer Inc., has a partnership with Bristol Myers Squibb on a promising drug called pumitamig, which is being tested in several clinical trials for breast and lung cancers. While BioNTech’s Covid vaccine sales were also better than analysts expected they still registered a decline from last year.

It’s working to bring its first cancer medicine to market by 2030, while its cofounders — the husband-and-wife scientists Ugur Sahin and Özlem Türeci — are preparing to leave by the yearend for their new mRNA-focused venture called Arife. BioNTech said Tuesday that discussions are still ongoing over what assets or rights it may transfer to Arife. “Any potential arrangement will be evaluated based on its strategic rationale and its ability to maximize value for patients and our shareholders. While there is an opportunity for a deal at this stage, it is optional for both parties and not a necessity,” Chief Financial Officer Ramón Zapata said.
