Stephen Maturen/Getty Images Ken Martin, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, expects Democrats to win historic victories Tuesday--but just hours before the first polls close, he warned his party that “no one should ever count Donald Trump out as long as he is president.”Speaking about President Trump in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Martin said that he is “confident we’re going to put at least one check on his power tonight by winning the House back,” and that Democrats had “a really good shot” at winning the Senate as well.

If his party takes the House and Senate, Martin said that Democratic control of both chambers would give Democrats “a lot of leverage” to force Trump’s hand at the negotiation table. While the party chairman deferred to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on legislative specifics, he noted that “Donald Trump has seemed to be a dealmaker over his lifetime.”
