A group of 250 security workers at the US’s busiest seaports continued contract negotiations with their employers beyond a deadline set for Wednesday evening.

A previous deadline raised the threat of a strike that could have affected operations at several terminals across the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles. The two parties agreed last week to extend the deadline from Sunday till Wednesday.

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 26 represents watchmen employed at terminals responsible for about more than half of the combined cargo at the Southern California ports, according to the PMA.
