By Tooba Khan Imran Khan’s son says he’s losing hope of ever seeing his father again, more than three years after the former Pakistani prime minister was put behind bars, according to an interview with CBC News.

“I find it hard to imagine that I will see him again,” Kasim Khan said, adding that if there’s anything he could do to help him get out of jail, he would.

Kasim said he wants his father to reach a deal with the government that could help secure Khan’s release. The family says the charges against the former cricketer are politically motivated.

It is not clear whether authorities have offered Khan a deal to settle the cases against him and secure his release from prison. Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“From a selfish perspective, I would love him to take that deal,” Kasim said, while acknowledging that he isn’t fully aware of the situation on the ground and hasn’t spoken to his father in more than seven months.

Now, some of our family are also in there so it’s very hard for him to say yes.” Kasim’s willingness to see his father reach a compromise comes two days after Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, postponed a planned countrywide protest demanding his release, potentially offering a window for talks after months of confrontation. The demonstration threatened to reignite political tensions in the nuclear-armed nation, where Khan’s imprisonment and the sidelining of his party have fueled repeated standoffs.

Khan is serving prison sentences in corruption cases, including a 14-year term handed down last year. His family and lawyers have accused prison authorities of holding him in inhumane conditions, saying he spends 23 hours a day in a small cell without natural light or contact with other prisoners. Pakistani authorities deny the allegations.
