Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez urged parliamentary parties Monday to support urgent measures aimed at easing the country's housing crisis, invoking the case of an 87-year-old woman whose eviction from her longtime Madrid home sparked days of protests.

Speaking at the 2026 Premios Vanguardia awards, Sanchez said his government would present a royal decree-law containing emergency housing measures to the Council of Ministers.

Police evicted her Wednesday despite protests attempting to prevent her removal.
