By Joe Deaux Peter Navarro, a longtime trade adviser to President Donald Trump, on Tuesday excoriated Canadian lobbyists, telling them during a conference in Washington to leave the US.

Navarro, discussing national security concerns arising from trade with China, said that the US must rebalance trade with all other nations in order to protect itself from Beijing’s dumping and subsidies. That includes Canada, he said, which Navarro addressed in response to the moderator asking how the US’s northern neighbor plays in the broader security question.

Like, please, if you’re on K Street, get the hell out of the country.”Navarro, a senior counselor for trade and manufacturing at the White House, has been one of the key tariff and trade hawks for Trump dating back to the early days of the president’s first administration. Navarro’s comments reflect the tone of some of the administration’s discussions and come as trade relations between the US and Canada remain deeply strained.

Some of those will hit especially hard in border states like Michigan and Maine - key battlegrounds in November’s midterm elections.
