Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal met US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on the sidelines of the G20 Trade Ministerial in Milwaukee as India and the United States stepped up efforts to conclude a “balanced and mutually beneficial” bilateral trade agreement.
会晤于周三举行，同一天，总理纳伦德拉·莫迪与美国总统唐纳德·特朗普通电话，回顾贸易、国防、能源、关键技术等共同关心领域的双边合作进展。
The meeting took place on Wednesday, the same day Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump spoke over the phone to review progress in bilateral cooperation across trade, defence, energy, critical technologies and other areas of mutual interest.
在戈亚尔访美前，商务部曾表示他将与格里尔就推进拟议贸易协定的谈判举行讨论。
Ahead of Goyal’s visit to the US, the Commerce Ministry had said he would hold discussions with Greer on moving forward talks on the proposed trade pact.
商务部在9月28日的声明中表示：“戈亚尔还将与美国同行进行双边接触，作为持续努力的一部分，以推进平衡且互利的印美双边贸易协定（BTA），并根据2026年2月7日联合声明敲定临时协议。”印度和美国曾在2月宣布，已敲定双边贸易协定第一阶段的框架。然而，美国关税形势的变化导致双方就该协定进行进一步谈判。
In a statement on September 28, the ministry said, “Goyal will also engage bilaterally with his counterpart from the United States as part of ongoing efforts to advance a balanced and mutually beneficial India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) and finalise an interim deal in line with the Joint Statement of 7 February 2026.”India and the US had announced in February that they had finalised the framework for the first phase of the bilateral trade agreement. However, changes in the tariff landscape in the US have led to further negotiations on the pact.
9月24日，戈亚尔曾表示，印美贸易协定已“尘埃落定”，将在美方给予印度在美国市场相对于竞争对手的适当竞争优势后执行。印度在美国市场的竞争对手包括东盟国家、中国和孟加拉国。
On September 24, Goyal had said the trade pact between India and the US is “done and dusted” and will be executed once the United States gives India the right competitive advantage over its competitors in the American market. India’s competitors in the US market include ASEAN countries, China and Bangladesh.
