Over one-fourth of President Trump’s 2024 voters believe Republicans would be more likely to win the midterms if they break away from the president this November, a Politico-PF Global poll found.

Twenty-six percent of respondents who voted for the president in 2024 said the Republican in their district would have a better chance of winning if they turned their back on Trump. On the issues, 57 percent said Republicans should break with Trump over the Iran war, 61 percent said they should break with him over the economy and 67 percent over immigration and border control.

Less than a month from the midterm elections, Republicans are working to defend seats — like those for Senate in Kansas and Iowa — that were not seen as competitive just a few months ago. Trump’s low approval ratings and discontent with the state of the economy are helping to give Democrats a chance to win in such places.

Despite the strong poll numbers, Democrats have not regained popularity among Americans. Democrats carry a 43.8 percent favorability rating, according to Decision Desk HQ.

The poll — which surveyed 2001 respondents in early October — carries a 2.2 percent margin of error with larger margins of error for the smaller subgroups.

Asked who should get credit if Republicans keep their majorities in the House and Senate this November, 22 percent of respondents said it would be due to Trump’s actions as president while 29 percent said it would be because Democrats’ had run a weak campaign. Twenty-three percent said credit should be given to the fact that Republicans ran strong campaigns and not because of Trump, and 26 percent said they don’t know who should get credit.

The poll found that 44 percent of respondents said their financial situations have gotten worse or much worse since Trump took office last year, while 21 percent said their situations have gotten better or much better.

Fifty-nine percent of respondents said groceries, gas and other expenses have gotten somewhat or much less affordable since Trump took office, including 40 percent of Trump 2024 voters.
