Travellers heading to and from the revamped Huanggang Port must use authorised public transport services only, including pre-booked licensed taxi fleets, as other ride-hailing services will not be available inside the boundary control area, according to the Hong Kong government.

At a press conference on Wednesday, transport officials also urged travellers not to rush to use the new port in the initial phase of its operations.

Five days ahead of the expected opening of the Huanggang Port on Monday, the Transport Department explained the public transport arrangements connecting the revamped Huanggang Port to different parts of Hong Kong. Sharing maps of the port’s Public Transport Interchange and its pickup points for franchised buses, urban and New Territories cabs, officials reminded those who wanted to book ride-hailing services to use only licensed taxi fleets.

“A pre-booked fleet taxi waiting area set up inside the port building features a service station and a display panel for fleet taxi arrival information,” said Amy Tse Sen-yee, assistant commissioner for transport.
根据交通部门的网站信息，新港口大楼内没有为非正规出租车车队预留的等候区域，这是为了维持交通的顺畅与秩序。由于该区域属于管制区域，因此网约车服务同样无法在该区域内使用。
“Passengers who have pre-booked a fleet taxi should at the service station by showing the vehicle registration mark to the fleet’s taxi ambassadors. They will dynamically deploy taxis waiting in the public transport buffer area to the dedicated pickup area to ensure passengers can board quickly and smoothly.”According to the department’s website, there will be no areas in the new building for pre-booked taxis that are not part of a taxi fleet, to maintain smooth and orderly traffic flow.

Transport authorities did not respond directly when asked why taxi fleets were designated to provide ride-hailing services. Hong Kong has five taxi fleets with more than 2,000 vehicles in service.

The buffer area is located in the boundary control area, a two-minute drive away from the port, and public buses, minibuses, coaches and taxis must wait there during peak periods to avoid congesting the bridge leading to the new building. At the press conference, Deputy Commissioner of Transport Candy Kwok Wai-ying urged residents to use suitable ports for border crossings and to avoid rushing to use Huanggang Port.

She also reminded those who used the new port to avoid lingering at major interchanges and to plan sufficient time for customs procedures.

“Members of the public are urged to use other land and rail border crossing points based on their needs for travelling between Shenzhen and Hong Kong and not rush to the new port for crossing the boundary,” she said.

The Huanggang Port will be the city’s first checkpoint to use the “joint inspection” model for immigration clearance, with mainland Chinese and Hong Kong immigration gates located side by side across 134 channels.

North Lantau Bus will operate route B12 from Wu Kai Sha Station Public Transport Interchange. Citybus will operate routes B13, B14 and B15 from Island Resort in Siu Sai Wan, Olympic Avenue in Kai Tak and Castle Peak Bay, respectively.
