By Katarina Höije Senegal is cutting spending next year as it seeks to restructure its debt and secure a new financing program from the International Monetary Fund.

The government aims to reduce its budget deficit to 4.7% of gross domestic product in 2027, from a revised 7.6% this year, according to its draft budget published this week. That’s below the IMF’s April forecast of 5.7% of GDP for next year.

The adjustment will be driven mainly by lower capital spending and tighter expenditure controls, as revenue projections become more aligned with the IMF’s macroeconomic framework, Citi Research said in a note to clients Friday.
