Trump late Friday waived tariffs linked to Russian energy exports that had been due to come in this week, days after saying he’d struck a deal with his President Vladimir Putin for Russia to supply the US and global market with diesel. Both moves were aimed at easing elevated fuel costs ahead of the US midterm elections on Nov. 3.

Bloomberg on Saturday reported that UK officials privately see a darker reality that Trump is simply not on their side on the fundamental issue of European security. Cooper sought to emphasize the need to work to “draw the NATO alliance together” on Ukraine.
