As deepfakes grow convincing enough to pass for real people on live video, World is pitching banks a new line of defense. It offers cryptographic proof that the person, or the agent, on the other end of an interaction is genuine.

The company launched World ID for banking and finance at Money20/20 on Sunday. It bundles its identity wallet, a newly generally available Zoom integration, and a tool for verifying AI agents. The single offering is aimed at financial institutions. It is the first time World has built a version of World ID around a specific industry.

A sharp rise in AI-enabled fraud The timing reflects a sharp rise in AI-enabled fraud. Deloitte estimates U.S. losses could more than triple, from $12.3 billion in 2023 to $40 billion by 2027. In banking and asset management, the stakes of a single impersonated call or spoofed customer request are high. These interactions often involve sensitive data and can lead directly to trades or transfers.

That is the problem World says it is trying to solve: helping institutions establish that a real human is present. It also means confirming relevant facts about them during digital interactions. That covers customer accounts, internal employee workflows, and AI agents.

Video calls and AI agents Video calls are the most immediate front. World ID for Zoom is built for real-time communication. It lets meeting participants confirm the person they are speaking with is human and not a deepfake. With general availability now announced, the integration is ready for broader use.

Tools for Humanity, which builds technology for World, has also joined Zoom’s ISV exchange program. That positions the product for wider enterprise rollout. World is set to appear at Zoomtopia, Zoom’s annual conference, shortly after the Money20/20 announcement.

The agent component addresses a newer and fast-growing challenge. AI agents are beginning to act on behalf of customers, from submitting requests to interacting with financial platforms. Institutions need a way to confirm who authorized them and what that person has verified. World ID for Agents lets a person establish Proofs about themselves and delegate them to an agent. The agent can then present those Proofs to a bank or other third-party platform.

Tying it together is the World ID app. It is an identity wallet where users claim, manage, and present their Proofs across digital services.

“As AI becomes increasingly prevalent in all aspects of our lives, enterprises are requesting individuals provide ‘Proofs’ about themselves to help mitigate fraud and increase trust,” said Sandro Herbig, president at Tools for Humanity. “World ID for banking and finance offers a suite of tools to add an AI-safe trust layer across their internal and external systems.” ## Design partners and enterprise plans Bain Capital, VanEck Funds, OpenExchange, and Outtake are among the design partners. They are exploring how the technology can support financial services use cases. World says its verification relies on quantum-secure cryptography, a design choice intended to keep Proofs secure as computing capabilities advance.

The banking push also signals World’s broader ambitions with enterprise customers. Beyond Zoomtopia, the company will run an activation at Cloudflare Connect as it continues to introduce its technology to large organizations.

World, originally conceived by Sam Altman, Max Novendstern, and Alex Blania, aims to build the largest network of verified humans online. The network says more than 18 million people now hold a Proof of Human.
