BANGKOK -- Toyota Motor plans to begin Thai production of a hydrogen fuel cell version of its Hilux pickup truck in December 2027, initially for export.

Thailand's Board of Investment on Monday approved the Japanese automaker's application for incentives related to its investment of 1.49 billion baht ($44 million) toward launching the hydrogen-powered Hilux in 2028. Toyota had announced the plans for the fuel cell version in 2025.
