Two men have been arrested on suspicion of assisting the Iranian intelligence services in connection with a suspected terror plot at RAF Fairford.

Counter-terror police said a 24-year-old British national, and a 25-year-old dual British-Iranian national, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting a foreign intelligence service. They added that the investigation was focused on the possible involvement of the Iranian intelligence services.

The 24-year-old was one of five British men who were arrested after three suspicious vans were seen near the military site on Sept 27. The suspects were later released on bail.

The British-Iranian man was arrested on Oct 1 on suspicion of the preparation of terrorist acts and was later bailed. ‘Hugely complex investigation’Asst Commissioner Laurence Taylor, the head of counter-terror policing, said: “Since the events at RAF Fairford on Sunday Sept 27, our specialist teams have been working tirelessly to interrogate the many lines of enquiry involved in this hugely complex investigation.

Earlier this month, the US withdrew all its bomber jets from the base after the US military became aware of new threats regarding an Iran-backed plot to target the facility. ‘Major emergency response operation’Police received a call about three suspicious vehicles that appeared to be travelling towards RAF Fairford in the early hours of Sept 27. A farmer returning home from a party later saw five men, who had travelled to the base in the vans, acting suspiciously, and raised the alarm at 1.36am on Sunday.
