The Chinese battery giant launched a slew of upgrades for the packs used in the cargo-hauling vehicles at an event in Beijing on Tuesday, and said it has secured orders for swap products covering 13,000 trucks from major logistics companies including SF Holding Co. and China Postal Express & Logistics Co.

The e-truck market is expanding rapidly in China, with vehicle sales accounting for just over half of the total last month, according to First Commercial Vehicle Network. The company plans to more than double its battery-swap stations for e-trucks to 2,000 by 2027, with a goal of running 10,000 facilities in the longer term, according to Yang Jun, chief executive officer of CATL’s e-truck battery-swap business. The sites allow drivers to quickly exchange a depleted battery pack for a charged one, rather than waiting for a recharge of an existing unit.
