Helsing is in advanced talks to invest in peer Destinus at a valuation of around €6 billion ($6.7 billion), according to people familiar with the matter, in a deal that would bring two of the region’s most prominent dronemakers closer.

Europe’s most valuable defense startup is set to participate in an ongoing funding round by Netherlands-based Destinus alongside other investors, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified discussing confidential matters. The German firm will acquire a minority stake, the person said.

Meanwhile, the two defense firms are finalizing an initial commercial partnership that will complement their respective offerings, the person added.

No final decisions have been made, and there’s no certainty that the discussions will lead to an agreement, the people cautioned. A representative for Destinus declined to comment, while Helsing wasn’t immediately available for comment outside business hours.

For its part, Destinus was founded in 2021 by Mikhail Kokorich, a Russian entrepreneur who renounced his citizenship in 2024 due to his opposition to the war in Ukraine. His startup produces a range of weapons, including long-distance strike drones, loitering munitions and interceptors, that it has supplied to Ukraine after Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Europe’s arsenals are largely bare of conventional long-range strike weapons — a hangover from the years of the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty, which effectively banned ground-launched cruise missiles. Several countries, including Germany, France and the UK, operate air-launched weapons, but with ranges of just a few hundred miles.

US-made BGM-109 Tomahawks, which Washington has promised to sell Germany, are in short supply. That has put pressure on Europe to find quick solutions. US-based startup Covenant says it will begin producing its Anthem cruise missile in Germany next year. Destinus’ lineup includes the Ruta cruise missile, which has an advertised range of nearly 1,000 miles.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is also investing billions in developing such weapons without US involvement.

Destinus raised a convertible note at a valuation of more than €1 billion in 2025. Bloomberg reported in May that the company was in talks with investors for a valuation of more than €5 billion ahead of a planned initial public offering.

Kokorich has previously settled a Securities and Exchange Commission suit regarding fraud claims at his prior company, Momentus Inc. He agreed in 2024 to pay a $2 million civil penalty and received a five-year ban on acting as an officer of a US-listed company in connection with his satellite firm going public in a blank-check merger.
