The selection raised questions over how the screening body came to its decision. It was the first time for the government to make such a request regarding how a university selected its president.
文部科学大臣关芳弘于周二表示：“对校长遴选背后的程序进行自主审查，以确保东京大学的治理履行其问责义务，这是迈向改革的第一步。”他补充说，该要求呼吁由该校的管理政策委员会进行视察。
“A self-directed review of the process behind the presidential selection to ensure the University of Tokyo’s governance is fulfilling its accountability obligations is the first step toward reform,” education minister Yoshihiro Seki said on Tuesday, adding that the request called for an inspection by the university’s management policy council.
