Gov. Josh Stein is criticizing recent State Board of Elections changes for mail-in ballots, saying the changes have contributed to thousands more absentee ballot rejections.
In a social media post, Gov. Stein said the rejection rate is twice as high as it was in 2022, and he urged North Carolina voters to make a plan to vote, preferably in person when possible.
Stein also reminded voters who return absentee ballots by mail to make sure both the ballot container and return envelope are sealed. Voters can track the status of a mail-in ballot through the state’s BallotTrax website. Oct. 20 was the last day to request an absentee ballot.
The State Board of Elections’ last-minute changes to voting by mail are leading to thousands more absentee ballots being rejected this election - at a rejection rate twice as high as in 2022. It’s infuriating. North Carolinians, please make a plan to vote this year, in person if possible. And if you’re voting by mail, make sure you seal both envelopes on your ballot. Don’t let them take away your vote.
