A Malaysian court has halted the deregistration of the country’s main opposition coalition, effectively allowing it to contest the upcoming Malacca state election, The Edge reported on Thursday.
高等法院批准了暂停社团注册官取消“国民联盟”注册决定的申请，直至法院审理，报道称。
The High Court granted a stay on the Registrar of Societies’ decision to delist Perikatan Nasional pending a court hearing, the report said.
“国民联盟”被注销源于指控称，该联盟在处理涉及一个成员党的内部争议时，违反了《社团法》及其自身章程。
The deregistration of Perikatan, which is led by Malaysia’s Islamist party, stemmed from claims that the coalition breached the Societies Act and its own constitution in dealing with an internal dispute involving a member party.

The court’s decision means Perikatan would be allowed to use its party logo and symbols at the upcoming Malacca election on Nov. 14.

Perikatan has emerged as a serious rival to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim this year, after establishing a collaboration with former ruling bloc Barisan Nasional to unseat Anwar’s Pakatan Harapan from power during the Negeri Sembilan election in August.
