Namibia cut its economic growth forecast for 2026 to 2.3% from 3.1% projected in its main budget, citing a weaker-than-expected performance in the first half of the year, a mid-year budget review showed on Thursday.

Growth is expected to accelerate gradually to 2.6% in 2027, 3.0% in 2028 and 3.3% in 2029, supported by mining projects, firm uranium and gold prices and stronger consumer spending as inflation and interest rates ease The finance ministry stuck to its budget deficit forecast of 5.5% of gross domestic product (GDP) this fiscal year, but public debt is now forecast to reach 68.7% of GDP, up from 65.2% projected in the February budget "Key risks remain muted global demand and commodity prices, especially for diamonds, high fuel prices, the anticipated El Nino and the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease," Finance Minister Ericah Shafudah said in a statement
