The move on Thursday to file a court notice of its intention to go into administration puts about 12,000 jobs at risk across roughly 600 stores. The distressed investment firm closed some stores after taking over last June but has in recent months struggled to offload the high street staple. Poundland has been contacted for comment.

Even retail turnaround specialists like Gordon Brothers are struggling against that backdrop. Claire’s Accessories entered insolvency proceedings at the start of the year, just months after it was bought out of administration by Modella Capital, which is also trying to restructure the store network that it acquired from WH Smith Plc in 2025 and renamed TG Jones.
