AB, a Swedish digital savings and investments platform, plans to expand into Germany as the nation seeks to invest more retirement savings in financial markets.
The company will start rolling out its products in Europe’s largest economy from Nov. 16 and launch pension savings accounts in January, the firm told reporters in Frankfurt on Monday. “We’re very happy with everything happening in Germany right now,” said Chief Executive Officer Rasmus Järborg at a press conference.
“The market is changing rapidly and we want to be here.”Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s coalition aims to overhaul the nation’s retirement system and invest more contributions in financial markets, as an aging society puts a strain on the pay-as-you-go scheme. The historic shift is expected to change the population’s risk-averse approach to savings more broadly and bolster financial markets in the country. Germany will be its fifth market after Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The company has said the German savings market is more than twice the size of the Nordic markets combined. Nordnet wants to be profitable in Germany from 2029 onward. “We don’t need this to be an overnight success,” said Järborg. “We need this to be a success over time.”
