TOKYO -- Japanese engineering group IHI has received an order from U.S.-based nuclear power company Westinghouse Electric toward supplying key equipment for the construction of a nuclear plant in Poland.

The engineering group signed a preliminary contract involving design and materials procurement for the containment vessel and steel modules of the plant's Unit 1, one of three reactors to be built. IHI aims to secure follow-on contracts covering the manufacturing and delivery of the equipment. Those additional contracts could lift the total order value beyond several billion yen (1 billion yen equals $6.34 million).
