Korea’s LG Energy Solution Ltd. plans to boost production capacity for energy-storage batteries in North America to capitalize on growing demand from artificial intelligence data centers.
首席财务官李昌实（音）周二在业绩电话会上表示，公司预计到今年年底将拥有超过50吉瓦时的所谓软包式储能系统产能，并计划明年将产量提升至70吉瓦时以上。
The company expects to have more than 50 gigawatt-hours of so-called pouch-based energy storage system capacity by the end of this year, and plans to increase output beyond 70 gigawatt-hours next year, Chief Financial Officer Chang Sil Lee said during an earnings call on Tuesday.

The expansion highlights LG Energy’s push into energy storage as growth in the electric-vehicle market slows. LG Energy’s ESS order backlog reached 160 gigawatt-hours in the third quarter, according to Lee. The company is discussing new projects with utilities and hyper-scale data-center operators that could lead to additional orders, he said. In September, LG Energy joined Nvidia Corp.’s DSX Ready program as an energy-storage system provider.

The South Korean company is preparing an LFP, or lithium-iron-phosphate, 2170 cylindrical battery for mass production in the first half of 2027, Lee said. It is also accelerating development of sodium-ion technology and plans to begin producing ESS samples at its Ochang plant by the end of this year, with test products shipped to North American customers in 2027, he added.

LG Energy is diversifying suppliers of cathodes, anodes and electrolytes to comply with US restrictions on prohibited foreign entities, according to Lee. The company is also securing locally sourced lithium through long-term agreements with suppliers in Canada and the US.
