BYD, China’s biggest automaker, has more than doubled its market share in Brazil a year after it began assembling vehicles in Latin America’s biggest economy, accelerating its push to become a dominant player in the country.

In the year as of October, BYD registered 193,227 vehicles in Brazil, up more than 120% from the same period in 2025 and helping lift its market share to 9.7% last month from 4.2% the year before, according to a statement shared with Bloomberg News on Tuesday. In October alone, registrations reached 24,114 vehicles, up 137.6% from a year earlier.

The market-share gains have come alongside BYD’s expansion in Latin America’s largest economy, which the Chinese automaker sees as a key market for its global growth. BYD’s industrial complex in Camaçari, in the northeastern state of Bahia, has been assembling vehicles shipped from China in semi-knocked-down (SKD) form and has become key for that expansion.

The plant, which has assembled more than 150,000 vehicles and accounts for 9,500 jobs, is in the final stages of construction and advanced operational testing for new welding and paint facilities. Construction of a stamping plant is also well advanced and, once completed, will provide the remaining manufacturing infrastructure needed for localized production, according to the company.
