High energy costs are forcing airlines to rethink growth plans even as travel demand remains resilient. LATAM Airlines on Tuesday lifted its annual revenue forecast but cut its earnings outlook, underscoring how fuel is eating into margins. "Looking ahead, we are undoubtedly more conservative," Cadier said.

Brazil's largest airline by market share still plans to take delivery of new aircraft and expand its network, but Cadier said some routes are becoming less attractive economically. Domestic capacity growth in Brazil this year is now expected at about 7.5%, down from an earlier forecast of 8% to 9%, he said.

The shift follows another jump in jet fuel prices in the third quarter, dashing hopes that costs would ease after the shock from conflict in the Middle East. LATAM had previously assumed fourth-quarter fuel prices of about $130 a barrel, but the group has since revised that to around $180 a barrel.

"I don't think we will see a rapid decline. We will live with higher fuel prices throughout next year," Cadier said.

Cadier also pointed to pressure from the Brazilian real after the currency fell sharply following President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's re-election last month. About 60% of LATAM Brasil's costs are denominated in dollars, he said, a burden that has grown heavier as fuel prices have risen.
