Minnesota voters are leaving their “I Voted” stickers at the memorial for Renee Good and Alex Pretti – two people killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers earlier this year. The state was the site of one of the country’s largest immigration enforcement operations called “Operation Metro Surge.”The controversial initiative led to Good and Pretti’s killings and rising disapproval of the Trump administration’s handling of immigration. One retired physician who left a sticker told The Guardian, “I knew Alex Pretti.”

“I just knew that he was a competent nurse – a really, really liked guy. And he was assassinated,” he said. When asked about President Trump, the retired physician said “the country has humiliated itself by putting in a bad man, a very, very bad character…Today is a chance for America to say whether they support this kind of thing.”Pretti, 37, was killed in January while filming ICE agents during ICE’s immigration crackdown in Minnesota. His family accused the Justice Department in late October of protecting the ICE agents involved in the shooting along with refusing to provide evidence for ongoing investigations.

“Share the evidence now so prosecutors can follow the facts and hold these men accountable,” Pretti’s father, Michael Pretti, said. “Do your job and stop shielding Alex’s killers.”Another voter who left his sticker at Good’s memorial site stated, “I felt like my vote felt a little bit more in touch with some of the things that happened earlier this year in the city,” per The Guardian. “So I felt like it was just the right thing to do – to come pay some respects and attach my vote to what happened here,” the voter continued.

Good was killed earlier in the year as a bystander captured on video the moment when ICE agents fired multiple shots into her vehicle at close range.

Her family and partner have filed lawsuits against administration officials, alleging in one filing the operation was “designed to be a violent and discriminatory campaign targeted at Minnesotans on the basis of race and national origin.”“Renee was one of those casualties,” the lawyers for Good’s family continued.
