Venture capital firm Sequoia Capital is shutting down its European base in London, a blow to the region’s ambitions to attract more funding for tech startups. Several people will lose their jobs in the closure, the firm said in a post on X on Wednesday.

The closure is a blow for Europe and London, which lag the US in terms of capital available to startups and the number of companies that evolve from the early stage to globally successful players.

The company’s European bets also include drone maker Stark Defence and fintech Klarna Group Plc.
