He addressed the crowd just before 11:30.“Friends, we are looking pretty good right now,” he said.A few minutes later, his campaign released a statement officially declaring victory.

With just over 229,000 votes counted Wednesday morning, Forstag led with 50%, followed by Flint with 47% and Libertarian candidate Nick Sheedy with 3%.When Forstag got on stage Tuesday night, results showed him with a significant lead across the district.
He told supporters he expected that lead to grow when the first numbers came in from Gallatin County.“In the last 30 minutes, the last voter in Gallatin County cast their ballot; we’re expecting those numbers to start coming in,” Forstag said.

During his speech, he talked about the Trump administration’s DOGE budget cuts, which he said drove him to run.“We have seen worse than this, and now we can again be a state that bends the course of this country's history for the better,” he said. “The only way we fix this is we send working-class people to Washington so that we can go fight for ourselves.”
After his speech, Forstag spent close to another half hour onstage, sharing handshakes and hugs with campaign staff, supporters and family members.
Forstag’s victory means he will succeed Republican U.S. Rep. Ryan Zinke in the 1st Congressional District, which covers western Montana, including Kalispell, Missoula, Butte and Bozeman. Zinke has represented the district since Montana was again split into two districts in 2022. He announced his decision not to seek another term shortly before the deadline, and he endorsed Flint to replace him.
Montana's 1st Congressional District race was considered a key part of the nationwide battle for control of Congress. National Republican leaders, including President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, campaigned in the district in support of Flint.
