A former Arkansas court administrator is facing felony charges after an investigation uncovered "extensive irregularities" with bar exam results from 2020 to 2025, prosecutors said.

Nancie Givens, who resigned her position as executive director of the Supreme Court of Arkansas’ Office of Professional Programs in February, faces 65 felony counts of tampering with a public record, Sixth Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Will Jones announced on Thursday.

The Arkansas Supreme Court said the charges stemmed from an internal review that uncovered "extensive discrepancies" in how the bar exam was administered.

The court said Givens deleted or modified approximately 11,400 files and electronic communications before she left in an effort to conceal her conduct, including bar examination score sheets that are supposed to be retained for 25 years.

"If these allegations are true, these actions constitute an unprecedented breach of public trust," six Arkansas Supreme Court justices said in a joint statement.

Court records show Givens pleaded not guilty on Wednesday. Givens could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday.

Court officials are working with state and federal authorities to recover the missing data and analyze all the bar exam results during Givens’ tenure, the court said.

The "vast majority" of Arkansas bar examinees who were previously informed they passed did indeed pass the test, the court added. But those affected by Givens’ misconduct will be notified by the court "as soon as possible upon definitive confirmation of their status," the court said.

The FBI and the Arkansas State Police initiated an investigation in April after the court uncovered the bar exam irregularities.
