Argentina's economy minister Luis Caputo is working to connect domestic suppliers to energy projects backed by the country's large-investment incentive regime, known as RIGI.

Argentina's economy minister, Luis Caputo, said the government is working to connect domestic suppliers more closely with energy projects approved under the country's flagship Large Investment Incentive Regime, known by its Spanish acronym RIGI. The ministry is seeking to overcome the risk that stagnation seen in weak early October indicators could persist.

RIGI is a regime offering tax and customs benefits meant to encourage large-scale investment by both foreign and domestic companies, with a particular focus on projects in energy, mining, and infrastructure. The government has said it wants local industry to benefit as well, by increasing the share of domestic firms within the supply chains of these approved projects.

Argentina's economy is contending with high inflation and pressure on its currency, and officials hope that large energy investments can support growth through both foreign-currency inflows and job creation. Officials said more detailed steps to ease local suppliers' participation in these projects would be outlined in the coming period.
