Google has bought nearly 3 million shares of the chip maker Qualcomm, less than half a percent of the company’s outstanding shares, according to a securities filing on Friday. The investment will give Google exposure to Qualcomm as the company pushes into serving the AI data center market.
The search giant spent roughly $548 million to buy 2,976,982 shares of the company, the filing revealed.
Google also has stakes in the chip designer Arm and a deal with chip designer Marvell for up to $12.2 billion in stock as the companies work on Google’s tensor processing units, the company’s in-house AI chips.
