Sen. Tom Cotton is pushing the Pentagon to review military equipment shipping after sensitive F-35 components were diverted to Hong Kong early this summer — the first formal indication that a senior Republican is concerned about the incident.

In a Tuesday letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the Arkansas Republican and Senate Intelligence Committee chair said the United States could not afford for military equipment to fall into the hands of a foreign adversary because of vulnerabilities in commercial transportation.

Given the complexity of these global supply chains, prioritizing national security every step of the way is vital,” Cotton wrote.

In his letter, Cotton asked Hegseth to review chain-of-custody requirements for military equipment shipped via third parties, the Pentagon’s ability to track those shipments and safeguards to prevent military materiel from being diverted to China and other adversarial nations.
