German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Tuesday that Russia is currently not interested in entering into negotiations with Ukraine to end the war.
默茨在柏林与哈萨克斯坦总统卡瑟姆若马尔特·托卡耶夫举行的新闻发布会上说：“我们正在作出广泛的外交努力。其中之一就是德国外长访问纽约并与俄罗斯外长会面。俄罗斯对该会面的最终评估表明，俄罗斯显然目前根本无意进行严肃的谈判。”这位德国领导人再次敦促俄罗斯重返谈判桌。
“We are making extensive diplomatic efforts. One of these was the German foreign minister’s visit to New York and his meeting with the Russian foreign minister. Russia’s final assessment of that meeting has shown that Russia is apparently not at all interested in serious talks at this time,” Merz said at a press briefing with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Berlin. The German leader urged Russia again to return to the negotiating table.

The chancellor reiterated that Russia will “not win this war.”Asked if he would be willing to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin at the upcoming G20 summit in the US, Merz evaded the question.
