In New Delhi, student groups and opposition supporters held protests for three consecutive days, with police detaining demonstrators as they sought to prevent them from gathering at Jantar Mantar, a prominent protest site in the capital.

The protesters are demanding Kumar’s removal and an immediate halt to the SIR, which they allege has resulted in millions of names being removed from voter lists. The opposition lawmakers are also planning to march to the poll panel’s office in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The poll body has said such differences were part of the normal decision-making process and that its final decisions were unanimous.
