The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) announced Monday it is adding six candidates to its list of potential flips. The DCCC added the candidates to its “Red to Blue” program, less than a month before the midterm elections. Via their inclusion on the list — which now includes 46 Democrats seeking to flip GOP-favored seats — the candidates will receive “organizational and fundraising support,” along with strategic guidance, staff resources and training, the DCCC noted in a release.
The six candidates now on the “Red to Blue” list include Chris Jones, Dwayne Romero and Eliott Rodriguez, who are challenging GOP Reps. French Hill (Ark.), Jeff Hurd (Colo.) and María Elvira Salazar (Fla.), respectively. Also on the list are Teresa Benitez-Thompson, Blake Gendebien and Justin Pearson, facing off against Nevada Republican David Flippo, New York Republican Anthony Constantino and Tennessee state Sen. Brent Taylor (R), respectively.
In 2024, President Trump won the six districts the DCCC has highlighted by an average of roughly 16 points. Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.), the chair of the DCCC, argued the six Democratic candidates are “winning over voters with their message of lowering costs,” as inflation remains above 3 percent amid the Iran war, which has stretched into its seventh month.
“At a time when so many families are struggling to pay the bills, Americans deserve representatives who will actually fight to make their lives better,” DelBene added in the committee’s release. “Less than one month out from Election Day, voters are ready to turn the page on House Republicans’ broken promises and elect Democrats to the House Majority.”
Democrats need to flip a net of three seats in November to capture a 218-217 majority in the lower chamber. As of Monday, Decision Desk HQ gives Democrats a 76 percent chance to win back the House.
Brooke Butler, the political director of the DCCC, said Sunday she believes Democrats could capture up to 240 House seats next month. “Anywhere between 218 and 240 feels very viable,” she told Politico. “We feel confident that we will get to 218. The question that I’ve told people from the beginning cycle is, ‘How much?’”Mike Marinella, a spokesperson for the National Republican Congressional Committee, told The Hill the DCCC “is stretching its map a mile wide and an inch deep, pretending every district in America is suddenly a battleground.”
Marinella added, “Democrats can put as many names on a list as they want, but they’re still begging for resources just to match Republicans’ air superiority while bailing out their radical socialist nominees.”
